Conseils pour repasser une chemise de manière professionnelle

Tips for professional shirt ironing

How do I iron a shirt?

Carefully ironing a shirt can seem like a tedious task. With practice, you can achieve impeccable results and make a big difference to the appearance of your outfit. A well-ironed shirt gives an impression of care and professionalism, whether for a day at the office, a special occasion or simply to look impeccable every day. In this series of practical tips, we'll guide you through the essential steps for ironing a shirt professionally.

1. Prepare your equipment

To start with, make sure you have a working iron and a clean, well-padded ironing board. A spray bottle filled with water can be handy for stubborn creases.

2. Plug in the iron and set the temperature

Plug in the iron and set the temperature accordingly. The temperature varies according to the fabric (linenpolyester, cotton, wooletc.). It is therefore important to always consult the care label on your shirt and set the iron temperature accordingly to avoid damaging it.

3. Prepare the shirt

Unbutton all shirt buttons, including cuffs and collar. Gently stretch the shirt on the ironing board so that it is taut.

4. Start with the collar

Iron the collar on the inside, starting at the back and working towards the front. Be sure to unbutton the collar so that you can cover the entire surface.

5. Iron the wrists

Open the cuffs and iron the inside first, then the outside. Be sure to iron all folds.

6. Iron the sleeves

Lay one sleeve of the shirt on the ironing board with the seam facing up. Gently iron from top to bottom, paying attention to creases. Repeat with the other sleeve.

7. Iron front and back

Start on the inside front of the shirt, close to the buttons. Next, iron the outside of the front, always paying attention to the creases. Repeat these steps for the back of the shirt.

8. Iron the bottom of the shirt

Stretch the bottom of the shirt on the ironing board, then gently iron from left to right.

9. Spray with water (if necessary)

If persistent creases don't disappear, you can spray water over the area before ironing again. By moistening the fabric, wrinkles will disappear more easily. If your iron doesn't have a spray function, use a bottle filled with water to spray the shirt.

10. Hang up the shirt

Once you've finished ironing the shirt, hang it on a hanger to keep it smooth. Take care when handling the shirt between each ironing step to avoid reproducing creases.

Other tips

In short, the art of shirt ironing takes practice and patience. With the steps described above, you have the knowledge you need to achieve a professional result.

If your schedule permits, we advise you to set aside a time when you can iron several shirts. However, be sure to follow a logical temperature progression, starting with the shirts requiring the lowest temperature and gradually increasing towards the fabrics requiring higher heat. This method will help you optimize your ironing and avoid having to prepare your equipment (board and iron) every time you want to iron a single shirt. You'll see that, over time, you'll become more adept at it, enabling you to perform the task more efficiently every time!
