Knowing how to properly fold your clothes helps you keep your wardrobe in order and quickly locate your favorite items. While there are many different ways of folding clothes, the Marie Kondo method has gained in popularity in recent years.
Do you know Marie Kondo? She's a Japanese superstar who's an expert on tidying up and proposes a simple, pertinent and effective approach to banishing clutter. Her approach recommends keeping only the essentials, and folding clothes to save as much space as possible in the wardrobe.
Would you like to be more efficient and space-saving with your clothes? Here are a few tips to help you do just that.
Folding clothes using the KonMari method
The technique? Fold all your clothes into rectangles, so that they stand upright on shelves or in drawers, instead of lying flat.
Start with your clothes that need to be hung, such as the following dresses, shirts, skirts or even coats. Arrange them on hangers and sort them by length, from longest to shortest.
For the rest, everything - absolutely everything - has to be folded! We've put together some of the most popular videos to help you discover the technique.
Folding a pants:
Superimpose the two legs and fold the crotch to form a straight line. Fold in half horizontally, then in three equal parts.
Folding a short:
Same technique as for pants. Overlay the two legs and fold the crotch to form a straight line. Fold in half horizontally, then in half again.
Folding a t-shirt:
Ndon't fold into quarters or corkscrew. Put the front of the shirt in front of you, fold the sides towards the middle of the garment, then fold the sleeves in so that they don't stick out. Then fold the shirt in half horizontally, then in thirds. That's it!Folding a sweater:
The technique remains the same as for the T-shirts, with just one extra step to fold the long sleeves vertically.
Folding a camisole:
Fold the garment in half, vertically. Fold the straps inwards, and possibly the sides if the tank top is flared. Fold horizontally in thirds.
Fold a sweater or wadded cotton:
Put the back of the sweater in front of you, fold each side towards the middle, then fold the sleeves vertically so that they don't stick out. Then fold the sweater in three horizontally.
Fold the socks and tights:
And yes, there is also a technique for folding socks. This will enable you to maintain the sock's elasticity, and increase its lifespan.
-
For the socks, lay them one on top of the other, then fold them horizontally in thirds.
-
For tall socks, overlap and fold horizontally into quarters.
-
For tights, overlap the legs, fold in half and roll up like sushi.
Fold the panties:
With the back facing you, fold the front of the pants toward the center, then fold vertically in thirds. Roll up and turn face down.
Fold bras:
ADo not fold the bra in half. Instead, close the bra and fold the straps into the shells. Then stack them in a box or drawer.
Fold the scarves:
For scarves, fold in half, then roll up.
For all other garments not included in the above list, the trick is to keep in mind that you need to form a rectangle.
